Ride For Hope 211

We would like to congratulate and thank Ida Mae Fiddler and Meagan Anishinabie for completing their cross country bicycle trek from Vancouver, B.C. to Ottawa, Ontario.

These two band members of Sandy Lake First Nation started this initiative to increase awareness and to raise funds for an aftercare program to deal with Oxy-Contin Drug Abuse in Sandy Lake, Ontario. This initiative required commitment and perseverence from the body, mind and soul.

We appreciate your dedication for the betterment of our community.

At 12:43 pm local time, on June 12th 2012, a Wasaya Charter Hawker Siddley 748, performing a routine fuel drop off, caught fire at the Sandy Lake Airport tarmac. At this time it is not known how the fire started. No one was injured.

The Chief and Council are appreciative that the Ministry of Natural Resources that happened to be based in the community, were quick to respond and took charge of the situation along with Local Fire Department, NAPS, and local Band Constables.

Class Tour of Band Office

The Band Office had some visitors earlier during the day when a group of students fom Apin Kakegamik's 5C gym class took a tour of the building.
They took a tour of the wide variety of offices and departments, they went everywhere from the Justice department, Welfare, Administration, and even got to view the meeting room where all the big decisions are made by the Chief and Council, getting a view of what goes on inside the core of their very own community.
